Rifat Rasier MD, FACS

About

Dr. Rifat Rasier is a distinguished ophthalmologist with a comprehensive background in both medical education and research. His training in ophthalmology includes prestigious institutions such as Louisiana State University School of Medicine in the United States, Stadtisches Klinikum Kemperhof in Germany, and The Western Eye Hospital, Imperial College in England. In 2007, he obtained equivalence for the Faculty of Medicine from the General Medical Council of England, achieving Full Medical Registration in the UK.

In addition to his ophthalmology training, Dr. Rasier completed a Master's program in Biomedical Engineering at Boğaziçi University in 2009. He furthered his specialisation in Ophthalmology at Bilim University, completing his residency in 2010. He fulfilled his compulsory service at Kırklareli State Hospital in 2012 and was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2016. He was promoted to Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology in 2021.

Dr. Rasier earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Boğaziçi University in 2017, achieving a perfect GPA of 4.0. His research led to the development of an innovative procedure for cataract surgery. His technique involves the use of laser tissue welding to close the incisions made in the eye's transparent layer, a process that reduces the need for sutures and decreases the risk of infection while shortening the operation time. This advancement was detailed in the international publication, Infrared Lasers for Corneal Tissue Welding.

His notable awards include:
